Pvt William I. Thomson attended was employed by Clark's Diary and Brewer Brothers of Pittsburgh.

He volunteered for the US Army in Springfield, Massachusetts on 2 March 1942 and was sent overseas in the summer of 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.
