S/Sgt Peter J. Hellrigel graduated from Clifton High School and was employed by the East Paterson plant of the Wright Aeronautical Corporation.He enlisted on 13 April 1943 and trained at Camp Croft, South Carolina. After volunteering for the paratroopers he was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia for preliminary training and Camp Mackall, North Carolina and Camp Forrest, Tennessee for advanced training. He was sent overseas in August 1944.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foy, Belgium.
