Pfc Howard W. Goddard attended grammar school and enlisted in Newark, New Jersy on 21 July 1943. He went overseas exactly one year later. Before entering service, he worked as a sales clerk for the Acme Market.
Pfc Goddard participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
