Pvt Bernard H. Olmstead worked briefly on the farm of his brother-in-law before enlisted in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on 29 January 1944. He had his infantry training at Camp Wooster, Texas and transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he received he trained to become a paratrooper. After going to Fort George Meade, he was sent overseas on 12 October 1944.He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foy, Belgium.
