Pvt William J. Lewis enlisted in Toledo, Ohio on 18 January 1944. He attended high school for 2 years and was a chauffeur before he enlisted.

His remains were found in Hürtgen and initially registered as Unknown X-5479. He was evacuated to Ardennes and identified there at the research facilities.
