Pvt Charles F. Grove Jr. graduated from University Military School in 1939 and was outstanding in athletics.

He enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama on 17 June 1943 and was sent overseas in December of the same year.
He was reported wounded in action in Hersfeld, Germany.
