Pfc Howard B. Fladd enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 28 December 1942. He was sent overseas in August 1944.

E Company had prepared a defensive position in the vicinity of Hürtgen, Germany. Pvt Fladd was believed to have entered a mine field in front of the company position.

During an area search by an investigation team of the 6890th Q.M.G.R.Co on 17 May 1946, Howard Fladd's remains were found above ground, among with the remains of six other American servicemen in Hürtgen, Germany. He was evacuated to Ardennes Cemetery and initially buried in a temporary grave on 21 May 1946. After being disinterred and after the cemetery was given a permanent status, he was given his final resting place in April 1949.
