1st Lt. Ray F. Rode Jr graduated from Cranbrook School in 1938, where he was the editor of the school newspaper, a member of the Glee Club, and served as Captain of the basketball team. He was voted the student who had done the most for Cranbrook.Communication between several units failed under intense fire. He personally contacted each man in his platoon, reassuring and strengthening their determination. He was fatally wounded while organizing his defensive position.
