More information
Pfc Leon T. Hedley worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Co. before he enlisted on 24 November 1943. He became sick while in training at Camp Swift, Texas and had to be hospitalized. He was offered a medical discharge but refused on the grounds that leaving the service might mean some young married man or father would have to fill his place.Source of information: Peter Schouteten, Terry Hirsch, www.abmc.gov, www.ancestry.com - 1940 Census / Headstone and Interment Record, www.archives.delaware.gov, www.findagrave.com - RussPickett, www.newspapers.com - The Morning News
