Pfc Joseph L. Schreck graduated from St. Xavier High School.He enlisted in Louisville, Kentucky on 5 September 1944 and went overseas with the infantry of the Ninth Army in January, 1945.
In the last battle Pfc Schreck picked up German hand grenades that were hurled into friendly positions, threw them back thus saving his comrades lives. He was fatally wounded negotiating a surrender.
