Pvt Frank S. Briggs attended Harvard University for two years where he played in the hockey team.He volunteered for the Army of the United States at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 11 March 1943. In July 1943, was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program and assigned to Ball State Teachers College in Muncie, Indiana. When this program was terminated by the War Department in March 1944, he was assigned to the infantry. He was sent overseas early in September 1944.
Pvt Briggs was killed by mortar shrapnel only a week after the division went into action.
