Curtis Behler was a coal minerHe was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. On 21 december 1944, to secure support of tank destroyers for his company which was pinned down, he made six trips across shell swept terrain to deliver firing data. He was mortally wounded but succeeded in calling a comrade and successfully transmitted his last message. He died of his wounds two days later.
