Biography

Albert Benjamin Emig was the fifth generation of his father’s family to live at the Emig family homestead, in Hellam, York County, Pennsylvania. The farm, known as Brook Leaf Farm, was inherited by his great grandfather, Eli Emig, in 1843, from his father, John Emig. Durng Albert’s lifetime, the farm was a successful dairy farm. Although the house is still standing, in 2017, with Albert’s death in WW II, the Emig heritage of the farm died with him. Albert, the only child of Howard M. Emig, was killed the week following his 19th Birthday. He was the valedictorian of his high school graduation class.

Pfc Albert B. Emig enlisted in Fort George G Meade, Maryland on 29 February 1944.
He attended high school for 4 years and worked on the family farm before he enlisted.

He was taken prisoner of war and died in a hospital in Stuttgart, probably a few days later.
