S/Sgt Floyd Tenpas enlisted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 24 June 1942 and was sent overseas in July of 1944.

He was wounded in action in November 1944. After recuperatong from those shrapnel wounds he returned to duty.

He was awarded the the Bronze Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: For heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on 14 November 1944, in the vicinity of... When Company F was faltering in its advance through an area swept by fire from ...., S/Sgt Tenpas began moving along the line of men, shouting encouragement and advice to them, in order to keep the attack moving forward. His valient action, which inspired his men to even greater efforts resulted in continued and more rapid movement forward and appalling casualties from the enemy's mortar fire were consequently averted. S/Sgt Tenpas was killed in action on 14 December 1944. S/Sgt Tenpas' daring conduct on this occasion reflects lasting credit on himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Andilly, France.

Three brothers also served.
