1st Lt William A. Root II graduated from the Bennington High School and took the forestry course at Pennsylvania State College with the class of 1938. He enlisted in the National Guard in Bennington, Vermont on 24 February 1941.He is remembered at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington, Bennington County, Vermont.
