Pfc Mellis G. Leisure graduated from Knightstown High School in 1941 and was employed at Delco-Remy as a machinist.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 27 November 1942
.
He was killed by artillery shell fragments to the head.

His brother, Pvt Max F. Leisure, is buried the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten.

His brother Robert was a prisoner of war at Stalag X-B from 19 December 1944 to 12 May 1945.
