T/5 James P. Cronin attended high school for one year and was a guard and watchman at the Socony Vaccums Oil Company before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Boston, Massachusetts on 18 November 1942.

He died in a hospital to the effects of artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
