T/5 Michael Morch was a driver before he enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 12 November 1942.

He died in a field hospital from wounds to his chest.

He was awarded the Silver Star medal posthumously for the rescue of a pilot from a blazing airplane, forced down in enemy-held territory near Kaiserslautern, Germany. The award was presented to his wife Mrs. Pauline Morsch.
