2nd Lt John M. Carpenter graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School and in 1942 from Niagara University.He was a clerk general office before he joined the Regular Army in Buffalo, New York on 25 August 1942. He was selected for the officers candidate training and graduated from the infantry school at Fort Benning, Georgia in November 1943. He was stationed in Lake Forest, North Carolina and at Camp Breckinridge and Camp McCain, Mississippi. He was sent overseas in August 1944.
At the time of his death his brother James was serving overseas with the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army.
