1st Sgt John J. Stracelsky was a fireman before he joined the Regular Army in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 14 September 1940.His parents were born in Slovakia. His father immigrated in 1900.
Captain Smith had posted four men on either side of a wooden bunker he was using for a command post. Just at dawn, two shots rang out and 1st Sgt John J. Stracelsky, who was standing in the doorway, fell mortally wounded.
His twin brother Andrew served as a gunner on a B-24 bomber in the squadron of the famous actor Jimmy Stewart.
On one picture he poses with his twin brother Andrew on the left and his youngest brother Paul who was the only son to be left to handle the family farm during the war.
