More information
Pfc Thomas A. Congdon graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1942 and was employed at the Firestone Company in Los Angeles. He enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 8 July 1943. He was selected for Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) and was sent overseas in August, 1944.
Per Capt John L. Downing, Chaplain in a letter to his parents: "Pfc Congdon was engaged with his company in an important front line action near the town of Serrig, Germany. Across the Saar river they were attacked by a German tank. Pfc Congdon and his fellow bazooka man went off to the flank to find the tank. The area was blanketed with artillery, mortar and small arms fire. Army investigation established that both men gave their lives at this time."
