Francis Wilson entered the service on 9 April 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. He was killed in action by an attempt to reach the forward Command Post and was killed by a German sniper.

1st Lt Wilson was initially buried at Fosse Cemetery at Namur in Belgium.
