Sgt Donald W. Groff graduated from McCaskey High School in 1938 and was employed at Newswanger's Shoe store.He enlisted in New Cumberlan, Pennsylvania on 25 November 1941. He was sent overseas in November 1942. He first served in Tunisia and Siciliy.
He died of wounds, sustained a day earlier.
Sgt Groff is remembered at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in New Holland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with a memorial marker.
