More information

S/Sgt Ernest F. Lepp enlisted on 16 August 1939.

He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before he went overseas in 1942. Taking part in the Africa, Italy and European invasions, he was wounded in action in the latter theatre of war, returning to action one month later. He leaves besides his wife, three children, Frank, five, Leona Mae, three and Bobbie, nearly two, whom he had never seen.

'On 4 August, while turning the column around in the mined area, S/Sgt Lepp of A Company struck what was believed to have been at least four teller mines. The tank was blown into the air. It flipped over and landed on the turret. The bottom armor of the tank had been split open as if by a can opener. S/Sgt Lepp was severely injured and T/4 Randolph, T/5 Lawson and Pvt Burke were killed.'
