Cpl Charles I. Wingert graduated from Hagerstown High School with the class of 1940 and worked at Danzer Lumber Company.

He enlisted in March 1943 and was sent overseas in October 1944.

He was initially been reported missing in action. Members of the family said that they had been informed that Cpl Wingert´s destroyed tank was located in Belgium but his body was not found until later.

A younger brother, James Wingert, served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.
