At 1101 hours, aircraft 471 was attacked by fighters, peeled to the left with #3 engine on fire and spreading to fuselage. Two men bailed out and chutes opened. The plane then went into a spin and exploded going into the clouds.

His nickname was "Pat" because he was born on St. Patrick's Day.
