Pvt Lee H. Gathagan was a mechanic before he enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 31 August 1944.

He was reported seriously wounded in action on 27 February when C Company was holding defensive positions in the vicinity of Wiersdorf, Germany.
