More information
T/5 Louis J. Archambeau went to work with his father at the brickyard at the age of twelve. At the age of eighteen he started boxing for eighteen months in the Catholic Youth Organisation. Afterwards he joined the Citizens Conservation Camp and travelled all over the U.S. rebuilding historical sites and parks.
In 1934 he joined the Regular Army and was stationed in Panama and Hawaii. He also boxed in the army and won the Welterweight Championship. After he broke his nose he quitted boxing. He was sent to Europe in November 1944.
In front of the positions of C Company was a German minefield where the remains of seven members of the company were found, surrounded by mess kits, likely the remains of a Christmas dinner. Possibly the men ate their meals and headed back towards the foxholes when somebody triggered the mines.
