Sgt Robert L. Armstrong graduated from Gloversville High School and worked in a leather processing company before he enlisted in Utica, New York on 20 April 1942.

Sgt Armstrong is remembered at the Ferndale Cemetery in North Perry, St. Johnstown, New York.

His father joined the Seabees, but died of a heart stroke during the training in 1942.
