Pvt Reinoldo W. Beltz attended college for two years and was employed as a driver by the C.& H. Sugar Company in Crocket, Contra Costa County, California before he joined the Regular Army from San Francisco, California on 2 March 1944.

Prior to the war he served in Honolulu, Hawaii with the 11th Field Artillery, from 1933-1935.
