Amon was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, North Carolina, Class of 1935. Soon after he moved to Tennessee and settled in Carter and Washington Counties, specifically, Elizabethon and Johnson City and worked as a General Office Clerk. He enlisted in the United States Army from Johnson City on 26 February 1944 and was indoctrinated into the service at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Amon completed basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama and was assigned as a replacement to the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division and sailed for Europe in August 1944. He participated in two unit campaigns; Rhineland and the Ardennes-Alsace. It was in this campaign during the Battle of the Bulge at a location known as the Twin Villages, Krinkelt-Rocherath, Belgium that Amond was killed in action while engaged with the enemy.Source of information: Astrid van Erp, www.wwiimemorial.com, www.findagrave.com
