Pfc Robert A. Urban attended Macomber Vocational High School in Toledo for four years before he enlisted at Camp Perry, Lacarne, Ohio on 27 March 1943.

He joined his unit from the 38th Replacement Battalion on 16 September 1944.

He was lightly wounded in action on 18 September 1944 and evacuated to a field hospital.
