S/Sgt Joseph W. Ryan graduated from the Newton Bateman Memorial High School in 1934 and attended Illinois College for two years. He was employed at the Wabash Railway Company and married to Eulala H. Baldwin on 11 July 1942.He enlisted in Peoria, Illinois on 13 March 1941.
S/Sgt Ryan is remembered at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois with a memorial marker.
