1st Lt Raymond E. Hoobing attended college for three years. He joined the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Lewis, Washington on 19 April 1943.He was married to Alice M. Taylor on 30 May 1943.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal posthumously. The citation stated: Lt Hoobing, while in the act of throwing a grenade, was mortally wounded by a burst of machine-gun fire. However, as a result of Lt Hoobing's efforts, the tank was subsequently recovered.
