1st Lt Francis C. Dolese graduated from Labadieville High School and attended the Louisiana State University for two years where he had planned to major in agricultural engineering.He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on 26 October 1942. He trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky and completed his officer's candidate course at Fort Benning, Georgia where he was commissioned in September 1944. He was sent overseas in Janaury 1945.
His brother Eugene served in France the Dental Corps with the rank of major.
