Pfc Guy V. Johnston enlisted in Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa on 15 June 1943. He classified to be a teacher at the Armored School at Fort Knox, Kentucky on 25 April 1944.His mother, Gladys Johnston married Edward A. Knight on 20 May 1926 and Guy was named after his stepfather until his mother divorced him. In 1930 Guy, his mother and brother Merle lived with their grandmother, Amanda Ella (Moore) Johnston in Madison, Iowa. His mother remarried with Franklin Andrews but was divorced in 1940. All the children were named Andrews but at the time of his enlistment, Guy's last names was changed in Johnston.
