2nd Lt Edward C. Finkbine II graduated from Culver Military Academy in June 1943 before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Culver, Indiana on 15 September 1942. He was sent overseas in October 1944.

He was reported slightly wounded in action in February 1945 but returned to his unit very soon. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.

He is also remembered at the Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.
