More information

Pfc John P. Sullivan enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 10 March 1943.

A letter to his parents stated that the commander of A Troop reported the patrol was overtaken and trapped by enemy artillery, machine gun, and small arms fire. The entire patrol disappeared and was not seen nor heard from again, the letter stated. It said that a search was made for the men, but no trace of them could be found.

The remains of Pfc Sullivan were found in September 1961.

He was officially declared dead one year and one day after he was reported missing in action.

At that time his unit was fighting in the vicinity of Gravelotte, France.

He is buried at the Cavalry Cemetery in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York.
