1st Lt John R. Wood enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 9 June 1942.Lt Wood's armored car was on the point, when just outside the town of Bebenhausen, a small town enemy patrol sighted the convoy and fired upon it. Lt. John R. Wood, a very popular officer, was killed in action together with his driver and radio operator, T/5 Edwards and T/4 Maryanov.
