More information
T/4 Gerald W. McDavid attended Dearborn High School in 1942 before he enlisted.During a fierce artillery barrage which fell upon the Troop's bivouac area, T/4 Elmer C. Jacobsen observed from his sheltered position that one of his buddies, Gerald W. McDavid, had been struck by shrapnel and had fallen, blood spurting from his neck. Jacobsen rushed forth to his comrade and grasped his neck artery, in an effort to stem the flow of life blood. He stayed on covering his comrade's body from the shelling and holding on until he was relieved by a medical officer.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
