Sgt Carl W. Foos enlisted at Fort Meade, South Dakota on 3 January 1941. He was trained with the cavalry at Fort Meade, which traditionally had horses. Carl was one of the first to train on motorcycles.He was wounded in action on 9 September 1944 in Belgium. As he rode his motorcycle, he was shot in the stomach. He died the following day.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Fosse, Belgium.
