More information
Bobby Wayne Fry graduated from Hollister High School in 1943.He enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines in December 1944.
He was in Belgium as a crew member of the S/S Joseph N. Nicollet. It is likely the ship was providing supplies after the war was over.
He died in a motorcycle accident. Per the American Consulate General report: "On the evening of 11 August 1945, at Gate 1 of the United States Docks, MS Fry walked onto the street into the path of a jeep. The driver of the jeep swerved to avoid hitting him. Directly behind the jeep was a motorcycle carrying two American soldiers. The operator of the motorcycle could not avoid hitting MS Fry and knocked him to the pavement. He and the other two soldiers were taken to the United State Docks Dispensary where MS Fry was pronounced dead on arrival."
