Sgt Harrell E. Thompson was a mechanic and repairman of motor vehicles before he enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama on 7 April 1941.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand-Failly, France.

His brother, Hoytte R. Thompson, is remembered on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial.
