More information
S/Sgt Arthur D. Webber was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross Medal posthumously. The citation states: "During operations against the enemy, S/Sgt Webber dropped a fragmentation bomb from his pocket and fearlessly picking up the grenade. He shouted a warning to his comrades. Realizing to throw it in any direction would cause casualties, he clasped it to his cheat and attempted to run as far as possible from the crowded area. The resulting explosion killed him instantly. Thru his intrepid unselfish action, he saved the lives of many of his comrades."Source of information: André Koch, www.abmc.gov, www.wwiimemorial.com, www.ancestry.com - Headstone and Interment Record / 1930 Census, www.newspapers.com - Chicago Tribune Illinois 17 October 1945
