Pvt Rudolph Kerchmar enlisted in Allentown, Pennsylvania on 28 June 1943 and was initially assigned to the Air Corps. He received training at Gulfport, Mississippi and Greensboro, New Jersey where he trained at the radio signal school. After completing the course he was sent to Camp Howze, Texas and was then transferred to the infantry.
