T/Sgt Walter Young was employed by Columbia Broadcasting System. He enlisted on 13 June 1942 and was sent overseas in November 1944.

T/Sgt Walter Young was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action. A part of the citation reads: ".. deemed it advisable to notify his Company Commander of their precarious position .. crossed sixty five yards of open terrain through a hail of enemy fire despite his wounds, he crawled approximately fifty yards further."
