Pvt Earl W. Mentzer attended Hagerstown High School and worked as a extruder operator for Victor Products before he enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland on 9 March 1943.He first trained with the field artillery, but was later transferred to the infantry. He was sent overseas in May 1944.
He is remembered at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France.
