Pfc Howard Smith enlisted on 18 September 1940 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He joined his unit from a replacement depot on 25 June 1944 and was seriously wounded in action on 15 July 1944. He was promoted to Private First Class on 1 November 1944.
