Robert E. Stutsman lived in Indianapolis with his uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. John Elder.He graduated from George Washington High School. He had attended Indiana University for three years, where he was a member of the Rifle Team, Pershing Rifles, and the Crack Drill Squad.
He enlisted in May 1942 and was sent overseas in February 1944.
Lt Stutsman had been wounded three times. The first time in September 1944 near Sedan, France. He was wounded again on 7 December and the third time on 24 December in the Aachen area.
