1st Lt Wilbur E. Acheson graduated from West Lafayette High School and was an employee of the Ralston Company.He served at the infantry replacement training center, at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, before entering the Officers Candidate School. He was commissioned a second lieutenant after successfully completing the course at Fort Benning, Georgia in May 1943.
He joined his unit from replacement depot on 24 November 1944.
